Description

Gong Ting is rightly called the “imperial” or “palace” tea. It represents the highest quality Shu Puerh made from the smallest tea buds and leaves (small grade). It is obtained by sifting the already processed Shu Puerh and constitutes about 10–15% of the total mass. Farmers usually keep Gong Ting for a “rainy day” because it is a highly liquid asset that can be sold at any time. Moreover, high-quality Gong Ting only increases in value over the years.

This Shu Puerh was produced in the summer of 2016 from spring Mao Cha harvested in the Ma Deng tea garden, using the classic wet fermentation technique called Wo Dui, lasting 45 days. Master Zhou used a batch of 400 kg in special wooden boxes for the fermentation. After the Wo Dui process, the Shu was dried, broken down, and sifted. This particular Gong Ting was kept by the master himself and, after 5 years of storage in a mountain village, following long persuasion, he kindly agreed to sell it to us.

Organoleptics

The soft, mature aroma of the warmed leaves is filled with milky-nutty notes, rosewood, and the scent of a ripe wheat field in July. Woody and creamy tones in the taste, highly valued in aged Shu, combine with the tartness of garden raspberry, praline, carob, cocoa, and Brazil nut. In the empty cup, vivid aromas of chocolate, caramel, oak, and dried fruits unfold. The aftertaste is clean and sweet, with an intriguing almond-like astringency. Active hydration (Sheng Jin) and a balanced mouthfeel testify to the high quality of the tea leaves, the master’s skill, and careful storage.

State

Cha Qi is powerful yet gentle. It wraps you like a warm, soft woolen blanket. This Gong Ting is a unique treasure for true tea enthusiasts and connoisseurs of Shu Puerh.

Master

Master Xiang earned two degrees and dedicated her life to reviving traditional techniques, settling in a remote mountainous region of Yunnan. Talented and attentive, Xiang is very meticulous when selecting tea raw materials. She is not afraid to experiment and inspires us every year with new fantastic teas.
