Description

Another representative of the unique high-mountain terroirs of Qian Jia Zhai by Master Zhou. This sheng puerh is made using traditional technique, but from purple material of cultivated Zi Juan trees aged 80–100 years. These trees were growing here even before the 1980s, when the Yunnan Tea Research Institute made this cultivar famous and spurred its large-scale cultivation. In fact, they appropriated the discovery and coined the name “Zi Juan” (“Purple Beauty” in Chinese).

The main feature of purple tea material – whether wild or cultivated – is its high content of anthocyanins, natural pigments that give the leaves their violet hue. These compounds are also found in beets, blueberries, and red cabbage. Anthocyanins are powerful natural antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties. They help lower blood sugar levels and support cardiovascular health. In addition to their color, anthocyanins typically give the tea a certain floral character, smoothness, and delicate taste.

 

 

 

 

Organoleptics

Аромат прогрітого листя дуже ніжний, флоральний та солодко-гіркуватий: чорнобривці, конюшина, солодкий стиглий виноград з тонами тютюну та соняшника. Яскравий настій сяє рожевим золотом. Цей шен надзвичайно динамічний: кожен пролив дарує свої унікальні відчуття. Перші проливи ефірні та солодкі: тони бузини та акації. Приємне горіхове гіркотіння розвивається від м’якості сортового фундуку з швейцарського шоколаду до зелені садової ліщини та яблучної кісточки. Чим виразніше приємне гіркотіння в смаку, тим більш солодким та потужним стає посмак. В середніх проливах з’являються осінні нотки печеного пряного гарбуза з корицею. Шеновий холодок перцевої м’яти у подиху стає дедалі виразнішим.

Master

Master Zhou was born and raised in the mountainous region of Qian Jia Zhai. His ancestors had been engaged in tea cultivation and production here for generations. His first teacher was his own grandfather. Later, he studied under a renowned master from Kunming. In 2004, Zhou created his first tea, which became his favorite and a true “flagship” product. During our collaboration, this tea was named Pineapple Express. In 2018, Master Zhou produced a sheng pu-erh from an ancient single tea tree, which won first place at the All-China Tea Olympiad and brought him recognition and respect among colleagues and collectors.
