Description

We consider this sheng puerh the pinnacle of the Qian Jia Zhai terroir. Its raw material comes from the leaves of ancient wild tea trees aged 500-1000 years, growing in the high-mountain Zhenyuan Reserve. The dense evergreen forests of the reserve are the natural habitat of wild tea trees and are believed to be one of the possible centers of origin of the tea plant as a species. Here grows the oldest and largest known wild tea tree, estimated to be around 2700 years old and over 25 meters tall. Access to the reserve is almost completely restricted, but local authorities allow impoverished villagers from the Yi and Lahu ethnic groups to harvest leaves from ancient tea trees in designated areas. This provides the villagers with an additional source of income – and gives Master Zhou access to truly unique tea material.

Organoleptics

The dry leaves are a deep dark green, typical of wild material. When warmed in a teapot, they release sweet, spicy, and fruity aromas: linden honey, pear, dried red apples, and mango, with a hint of hops and nutmeg at the end. The infusion is bright and straw-yellow. The taste is soft and luminous-sweet white grapes, white currants, and starfruit. A delicate fruity tartness, born of the exceptionally high amino acid content, lingers in the liquor. With each steeping, gentle mineral, sweet-bitter, and hoppy notes emerge, unfolding into a fantastic aftertaste. This aftertaste is the true headliner of this gastronomic festival-powerful, floral-mineral, and endless. It deepens and intensifies over time, inviting long pauses between infusions as it flows ever deeper from the tip of the tongue into the tea’s tranquil state.

State

Цей чай дуже сильно працює з тілом — ти буквально відчуваєш його. Чайний стан розливається теплом, тіло й думки легкі та безтурботні.

Master

Master Zhou was born and raised in the mountainous region of Qian Jia Zhai. His ancestors had been engaged in tea cultivation and production here for generations. His first teacher was his own grandfather. Later, he studied under a renowned master from Kunming. In 2004, Zhou created his first tea, which became his favorite and a true “flagship” product. During our collaboration, this tea was named Pineapple Express. In 2018, Master Zhou produced a sheng pu-erh from an ancient single tea tree, which won first place at the All-China Tea Olympiad and brought him recognition and respect among colleagues and collectors.
