Talented and meticulous Master Xiang selected one of her favorite tea materials for this sheng — leaves from ancient tea trees over 200 years old (Gu Shu) from the tea garden in the settlement of Maden. These trees belong to a local variety that naturally never grows very tall. Farmers prefer such trees for a very simple reason — they are simply easier to harvest from. Sometimes they even deliberately prune the trees to prevent them from growing tall.
A medium-pressed tea cake with large, fleshy, and heavy leaves.
The aroma of the warmed leaves is sweet-woody, peaty, and deep: initially apple, vanilla, palo santo, musk, and amber; later, fruity notes of watermelon, orange zest, demerara sugar, and Laphroaig emerge.
The infusion is dense and oily, with a honeyed astringency of ripe pear and the sweetness of peach.
The powerful moisturizing aftertaste (Sheng Jin) contrasts with a spreading bitter fruitiness (Ku Wei), filled with a fresh sensation of light minty coolness (Hou Gan) and a long-lasting throat sensation (Hou Yun), all highly sought after by true puerh connoisseurs.
Full-bodied and powerful, it bursts forth with a strong temple-like Cha Qi that by the end of the session transforms into a feeling of concentration and pure mental energy.
One year of aging in a mountain village has noticeably enhanced its maturity, but that is nothing compared to its potential, which is measured in decades.
Master Xiang earned two degrees and dedicated her life to reviving traditional techniques, settling in a remote mountainous region of Yunnan. Talented and attentive, Xiang is very meticulous when selecting tea raw materials. She is not afraid to experiment and inspires us every year with new fantastic teas.
