The material for this tea is harvested in March, among the very first of the season, from bushes aged 80–100 years. Following the master’s instructions, the farmers aim to catch the moment when the bud has just awakened and released its first “flushes” — tiny needles that will later develop into leaves. Another distinctive feature is that the master selected a local small-leaf varietal of Camellia sinensis assamica, a type generally characteristic of Yunnan, which can occasionally be found on the slopes of Wuliang Mountain.
The aroma of the warmed leaves reveals fresh birchwood shavings, nettle, white sage, lemon balm, and a hint of spicy curry. The first light infusions are filled with spring freshness and the moisture of vibrant greenery. The tea is exceptionally long, dynamic, and ever-changing. The early floral character of the buds gradually develops, in the middle infusions, into the oily density and sweetness of the young flushes, enveloping the palate and transforming into a prolonged, expressive floral aftertaste. It is precisely these perceptible metamorphoses from infusion to infusion that the master sought to achieve by combining the terroir of the material with the specific stage of bud development carefully timed by the farmers during harvest.
A powerful tea state gradually fills the entire body. Depending on your needs, it will either invigorate and motivate or gently calm and soothe.
